Hello, my name is THE BLACKSHANKS.

THE BLACKSHANKS WHO?

THE BLACKSHANKS (under its alter-ego band THE IGOR SPECTRE), had just finished up 3 shows with The ADICTS on the first leg of their US Tour in March 2011.

But before those shows even began, The Igor Spectre was already in a bit of a jam, having fired their drummer just a few weeks before the gigs, after he not-too-subtly hinted that he would be quitting unless we further tailored Igor Spectre to his latest demands.

Demands like: “You guys practice without me from now on, and just send me MP3s,” and “I’ll come up with my parts by myself, and once I do, there’s no changing them.”

(Wait, what?)

Then we had to fire the Igor bassist after a slew of unimaginable fuckery hit the fan when he decided to simultaneously, literally, go off his prescription medication (again, not figuratively, but literally), WHILE embarking on a 30-day FAST (no food; just lemon water).

So by the end of those 3 shows, The Igor Spectre had fired its drummer, AND its bassist, and was rebuilding the lineup when…

…Igor Spectre’s lead singer Robert James’ family suffered several severe hospitalizations in a row, then Robert James himself became hospitalized with what he thought was heatstroke, but what turned out to be a thyroid condition which knocked him out of the game for months.

So, the new lineup decided flatly: Igor Spectre without Robert James would’ve simply been stupid.  But a full year down the tubes and not doing anything musically would’ve been just as stupid.

So the BLACKSHANKS were born, with yours truly, B. O’Malley (guitarist and a founding member of Igor), writing the material, singing, playing guitar, and tracking and producing.  Mary Sonic Woo (keyboardist for Igor) hopped aboard first, followed Tim Kinzy (former Igor drummer from 2005-2007) after he rejoined Igor, and finally along with Dan™ on bass, formerly of the White Trash Debutantes, joined The Igor Spectre and hopped aboard The Blackshanks project as well.

And now, finally, with Igor Spectre healthy, happy, and with a new lineup working on a new Igor album, the Blackshanks album makes its debut.

We’ll be announcing the new CD release date (and VINYL) SOON!

Stay Shanky!

Bon appetit!
B.
